2012 Ferrari 458-NightHawk combines extreme performance

Ferrari aimed to make this car driver-friendly, and to do that they made sure that a standard automatic transmission would be used. The 458 doesn't have a manual option; instead, the Getrag dual-clutch 7-speed transmission handles all the shifting duties.

2011 Ferrari 458 NightHawk

To simply call the 458's engine powerful would be too much of a compliment to other powerful engines on the road. The mid-rear mounted (a first for Ferrari) 4499 cc V8 direct injection engine is dominant on all fronts. The engine is able to deliver 570 CV at 9000 rpm and has a power output of 127 CV per litre.

To reduce weight from the already light 458 Italia, engineers used thinner body panels and carbon fiber as well as Lexan wherever possible in this track-only model. Equipped with lightweight body panels and specially tuned suspension, the 458 Italia Challenge is the first Challenge racer to use the F1-Trac traction control system and it is Ferrari's first racing application of the dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. The F1-Trac system allows to constantly monitoring levels of grip for maximum high-performance road-holding and it is fully integrated with the E-Diff to guarantee maximum acceleration and stability into and out of corners. The ABS/EBD, F1-Trac and E-Diff calibration settings are selected thru the manettino placed in the steering wheel. It is the first time this solution has been adopted on a Ferrari Challenge series model. The driver can choose from three configurations: OFF (traction control deactivated), position 1 and position 2, which have progressively higher levels of control system intervention.

2011 The Ferrari-458 is Super Fast Cars

The engine is the same block as used in the California too, except it takes on different characteristics after the aluminum has been cast. The stroke has been increased to give 4.5 litres instead of 4.3 and it is now good for 9000 revs and 562 bhp. That's 125 bhp per litre. And there are no turbo's or superchargers involved here. That's also a 70 bhp increase over the ordinary F430 but despite this, the 458 Italia is more economical and produces less CO2.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49F90hkfoG4DACMbYF7inIZF3Vuw9M64BB9Pep4-t0rt9d2-Z3_yPri3QWPWx0200CLSej1Lk8ndCiHtCDVo7HwZOjz7h8_JmQX4s4KOyS8OtrGj3epWqEFiVTgYhMJRHI-3pARyqOH8/s1600/Ferrari-458-NightHawk-20.jpg

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQbwAAMkGeB9iTu3zL5zZAjNj2PJFNExFUJhUsgSrsjPG17XdUNNYWcMXUis69M-wSykBWMZ1W8r9XE_NDBZS6LAihbp8nhWovhNWroKbBLgyXMfyAbjOVZcB8JIt1CXtebIV-RcUBHq8/s1600/Ferrari-458-NightHawk-15.jpg

Let's talk performance. The 458 provides a huge power to weight ration and provides massive speed which doesn't just build and build - it's like a rocket ship all the way through the gears and right up to 9000 revs. In terms of the transmission the gearbox is a triumph and despite being a double clutched set-up with paddles on the wheel it is always very responsive and never feels removed or clinical. The throttle is almost too sensitive with no room to ease on the power with subtlety, which feels almost at odds with the refined transmission. Sound wise the 458 Italia delivers like you would expect from a Ferrari with a vicious roar and a throaty burble on the over-run.

Ferrari 458 Challenge Car Tuning

The 458 Challenge boasts a host of upgrades over its road-legal sibling to make it race worthy when it hits the grid in Ferrari’s one-make race series from 2011. The Ferrari 458 Challenge will make world premiere at the 35th edition of the Bologna Motor Show in Italy, which runs for the public from December 4 to 12.

Ferrari is also displaying a variety of other racing models from the past and present at its Bologna Motor Show stand, including a 430 GTC owned by the AF Corse team Ferrari and an F1 model.
Ferrari’s engineers have made modifications to the gear ratios and calibration of its dual-clutch F1 gearbox to further improve torque at lower revs. While the Challenge keeps the 458 Italia’s direct injection 4.5-liter V8 with an output of 570 hp at 9,000 rpm intact.

The Ferrari 458 Challenge is equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version, a first for Ferrari’s track-only cars. Another first for a Ferrari Challenge model is the adoption of the firm’s F1-Trac traction control system. The race-spec model also gets a specific suspension set-up with steel uniball joints, stiffer springs, single-rate alloy dampers and a ride height lowered by 50mm all round.
Stopping power is provided by the new generation Brembo CCM2 brakes integrated with the latest ABS system which debuted on the 599XX, Ferrari’s experimental laboratory car, while it rides on centre-nut 19-inch forged rims wrapped in larger dimension Pirelli slicks.
Result of combined is the improvement of the car’s lap time at Fiorano by two seconds over that of its predecessor, resulting in a new record of just 1’16.5”. According to the Italian company, the amount of lateral grip the new car generates is 1.6G. Read also about this car’s detail at previous post..

2011 ferrari f430

The car saves effectively on weight to excel in speed, and its curb weight is approximately 1,225 kg. In the cockpit, Ferrari have removed all excessive luxuries that might increase the weight of the car. There are no stereos, speakers or even carpets in the Ferrari F430 Challenge and even the standard seats have been replaced by seats that are exclusively designed for racing. Even the steering wheel of the car has been replaced by a racing edition of the wheel.

There are buttons available on the dash board to provide communication with the radio in the pit, and an interface option with the digital instrument display is also an availability. The car also features a full roll cage and harnesses for racing in the cockpit to provide better safety while driving at a fast speed. The stability system, as well as the traction control system has both been disengaged permanently from the Ferrari F430 Challenge. You can spot modifications that have been made to facilitate in racing in the car everywhere, and even the E differential of the car has been replaced by a mechanical version.

Even the suspension modules of the Ferrari F430 Challenge have been modified to facilitate racing. The engine of the car is the same one that was used in the Ferrari F430, which is the 90° 4.3 liter V8. Just like its counterpart, the Ferrari F430 Challenge produces the same output, which rests at 483 hp. However, the engine of the car has been modified to include Double Overhead Camshafts, and it contains 4 valves in every cylinder. Natural aspiration has been, and always was, used in the car.

Ferrari California Some Sharper Teeth

Anderson Germany Ferrari California front 3/4 view

The Ferrari California is, like any model to emerge from the Maranello plant since, say, the shiver-worthy 348, a brilliant car. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that the latest “starter Ferrari was practically born to be purchased by rodent-sized-canine-owning celebrities who neither know nor care about the car’s thousands of engineering man-hours or the storied marque’s extensive competition record both past and present. (“Fernando Alonso? He’s, like, an opera singer, right?”)

This pre-installed stigma is bad juju for types of true enthusiasts who would buy this car. You know, the folks who wake up at stupid o’clock in the morning to watch Formula 1 live on Speed and can appreciate technology like the direct-injected 4.3L V8 and available 7-speed double-clutch transmission, because the gearhead of lesser means who sees them cruising down the street will tend to assume the person behind the wheel thinks "Imola" is the name of a meat-borne pathogen and merely bought a California because it’s a convertible and it has a back seat on which to place the pet carrier of Aphrodite, their Mexican Hairless.

Anderson Germany Ferrari California rear 3/4 view

Mercifully, there is a way to show the world that, while you may be a Ferrari California owner, you are not a poseur. Just send your California and an undisclosed sum of currency to the Bavarian tuning firm Anderson Germany (no relation…we think). The heart of the company’s modifications lie underneath, where a reflashed ECU and a tri-mode stainless steel exhaust system (the latter featuring a system of valves that allow for a choice of three sound levels, presumably ranging from sleep-deprived-Dustbuster to Mel Gibson-at-an-African-American-rabbi-convention) raise output by 55 ponies for a total of 515hp. That is more like it, isn’t it?

But the envious peons on the street won’t notice those hidden upgrades since they’re, you know, hidden. That’s why Anderson Germany also adds larger wheels and tires (21-inchers in front, 22s in back), a suspension control module that allows the car to be lowered up to 1.3 inches at the push of a button, smoked taillight lenses, tinted windows (which probably won’t get the thumbs up from the average American DMV inspector) and a handsome body kit consisting of painted rocker panel extensions and an unpainted carbon fiber rear diffuser, rear lip spoiler, front air dam extension, hood scoop and side vent grilles. Buyers can also have the interior fitted with carbon fiber trim and other custom touches. In short, Anderson Germany has everything you need to make your Ferrari California stand out from the latte-sipping, paparazzi-fleeing herd. So much for your last excuse for not buying one.
